A few years ago, I discovered padel while in Spain with my girlfriend’s family. We jumped on a court after being told it was “a bit like tennis” (which I’ve never liked). I remember thinking, just don’t get too competitive in front of your girlfriend’s dad.

Two hours later, seven of us had been rotating on and off the court and, dare I admit it, I got beaten by my girlfriend and her dad… who had two metal knees. I came off court thinking, how is this sport so much fun?

Despite being thoroughly embarrassed, I couldn’t stop thinking about the crazy rallies, the laughter, and the thrill of playing shots off the glass. I even remember my first back-wall shot! I came off the court grinning, joking with everyone, and feeling more connected to her family than ever.

When I got back to the UK, I was desperate to keep playing, but struggled to find courts, especially indoors. That’s when I realised: this is what I want I need to do.

Growing up, I was never the clever kid in class, but sport was where I found confidence, friendship, and a sense of belonging. I knew padel had the power to give others that same feeling. No matter their age, ability, or background.

So, in November 2024, I started searching for a site to bring my vision to life! and found Grateley Business Park. After months of planning, I submitted our proposal to the council in March.

What followed were 33 long weeks of objections, back and forth discussions, and even newspaper headlines in The Times, The Telegraph, and The Daily Mail. I’ll be honest, there were moments I questioned whether I’d made the right decision.

But I kept thinking back to that first game in Spain… The laughter, the connection, the joy and I knew I couldn’t give up. Then came October 30th, the day of the committee meeting. I stood up, gave my speech, and after what felt like forever, the council reached a unanimous decision. Approval granted.

Now, it’s time to show everyone just how incredible this sport really is.
